How do I leave a gift in my Will?

This is very easy to do once you’ve decided to make or change your Will and thought about where you’d like to make a difference with your gift.

In reality many of us are yet to make a Will. We can put it off over the years for many reasons as other things in life take our time and focus.

Making a Will is one of the most important things you can do to ensure that your wishes are carried out and that your loved ones are provided for in the future. What’s more, if you decide to leave a legacy as part of your Will, it won’t cost a penny now and can even save tax on what you leave.

If you are yet to make a Will, if in doubt, use a Solicitor to do so who can help you using all their legal know how.

Wills can be very simple documents. To leave a gift to the South West Coast Path Association in your Will, you should make a note of our official charity name, address and registered charity number and give this to your solicitor:

South West Coast Path Association

Unit 2, Bowker House, Ivybridge, Devon, PL21 9EF

Registered Charity No:1163422

The Remember A Charity website provides further information on writing a Will including why a Will is so important, factors you should consider, steps to take and an explanation of terms you might come across.

The South West Coast Path Association is unable to give legal advice about leaving a gift in your Will.

Do you already have a Will?

If so, you can phone your solicitor and ask them to amend your Will which they will be able to do for you in minutes. Simply say that you’d like them to add a gift in your will to the South West Coast Path Association for the amount you’d like to leave. Alternatively, you can make what’s called a ‘Codicil’, which you can complete and send to your solicitor.

Your solicitor will be able to make sure that it does not conflict with your current Will. Please download our Codicil template HERE.
